When this route is the right one

You hold USDC on Ethereum and want the same dollars on Polygon, where a transfer costs a fraction of a cent: to use an app deployed there, to make a run of small payments without paying Ethereum gas each time, or to top up a wallet that someone else will spend from on Polygon.

Both addresses look the same — 0x and 40 characters — and that is the trap. Sending USDC from an Ethereum wallet to a Polygon address is just an Ethereum transfer to that address on Ethereum; nothing arrives on Polygon. The token has to be received on one chain and paid out on the other. Here you send once on Ethereum and USDC is transferred to you on Polygon.

Both are native USDC issued by Circle; both contracts are on Circle's list of USDC addresses (checked on 12 October 2026). On Polygon there is also an older bridged token labelled USDC.e, which came over the Polygon bridge and is not issued by Circle. This route pays native USDC at the 0x3c49…3359 contract. If a Polygon app shows two USDC entries, pick the one with this contract.

What happens, in order

  1. Enter the amount and the Polygon address

Paste the 0x… address that should receive USDC on Polygon. It can be the same address you send from — the payout lands on Polygon, not Ethereum.

  2. Send USDC on Ethereum

You get a one-time 0x… deposit address on Ethereum. Send USDC from any Ethereum wallet; gas is paid in ETH.

  3. Ethereum confirms

15 confirmations, about 4–10 minutes. The Polygon amount is fixed at the last one.

  4. USDC is paid out on Polygon

The status page links the Etherscan hash of your deposit and the Polygonscan hash of the payout.

Before you send — checklist

  • The receiving address is an address you control on Polygon PoS — 0x and 40 hexadecimal characters. Any Ethereum wallet address works on Polygon once the wallet is switched to that network.
  • If the address belongs to an exchange, its deposit page says USDC on Polygon — and native USDC, not USDC.e, if the exchange distinguishes them.
  • There is enough ETH in the sending wallet for a token transfer at today's gas price.
  • The receiving wallet will hold a little POL. Receiving costs nothing; the next transfer out needs POL for gas.
  • You saved the status link.

The two mistakes that cost money on this route

Checking the wrong explorer

After the payout, the USDC is on Polygon. Etherscan will show nothing new for your address; Polygonscan will. In a wallet, switch the network to Polygon to see the balance. If the wallet does not list USDC on Polygon, add the token by contract 0x3c499c542cEF5E3811e1192ce70d8cC03d5c3359.

Confusing native USDC with USDC.e

Polygon has two tokens called USDC. USDC.e is the bridged legacy token; native USDC is issued by Circle. They trade near parity but are different contracts, and an app or exchange that wants one may not accept the other. This route delivers native USDC; check which one the receiving side expects.

Other ways to make the same move

WayWhat you needWhere it is slower or dearer
The Polygon PoS bridgeA wallet connected to Ethereum and Polygon, ETH for gasGas on Ethereum and a wait on the bridge's side before the balance shows on Polygon; which USDC you receive depends on the bridge path
An exchange accountAn account; a USDC deposit on Ethereum, a withdrawal on PolygonSign-up, a deposit wait, a withdrawal fee

What is visible on-chain

Etherscan shows your wallet transferring USDC to the deposit address with the amount and the gas paid. Polygonscan shows a transfer of native USDC from a payout address to your 0x… address, with the amount and a gas fee in POL paid by the sender. Both are public; neither chain references the other.

FAQ

Is USDC on Polygon the same as USDC on Ethereum?

Same issuer, same price, two ledgers. Circle issues native USDC on both; the contracts differ and a balance on one chain cannot be spent on the other.

How long does it take?

About 4–10 minutes: 15 Ethereum confirmations, then a Polygon payout that confirms in seconds.

Can I use the same address for sending and receiving?

Yes. An Ethereum address is valid on Polygon. You send from it on Ethereum and receive to it on Polygon; the wallet shows the two balances when you switch networks.

Native USDC or USDC.e?

Native USDC, contract 0x3c49…3359 on Circle's list (checked on 12 October 2026). USDC.e is a different, bridged token.

Do I need POL?

Not to receive. You need POL in that wallet to move the USDC on Polygon afterwards.

What if the swap cannot be completed?

Write to support with the swap ID from the status page. The form has no refund address: a swap that cannot be completed is handled by hand, and a return to the address you sent from is arranged under the partner's rules, less the network fee.
