When this route is the right one

You hold bitcoin and want to end up with XMR — for a payment that is only accepted in Monero, or to hold a coin whose ledger does not show your balance to anyone who looks up your address.

Bitcoin cannot be sent to a Monero address, and the two networks share nothing: different addresses, different block times, different fee markets. Atomic-swap software exists for this pair, but it needs a counterparty who is online and a few hours. Here the Bitcoin leg is a normal transfer to a one-time address; after 2 confirmations the XMR is sent to you. Count on 21–44 minutes, most of it Bitcoin block time.

What happens, in order

  1. Enter the BTC amount and your Monero address

Paste the 95-character address from your Monero wallet (4… or 8…). The estimate is shown in XMR and moves with the market.

  2. Send bitcoin to the deposit address

You get a one-time Bitcoin address. Send the exact amount from any wallet, with a fee your wallet expects to confirm within the next few blocks.

  3. Bitcoin confirms

We wait for 2 confirmations. Blocks average ten minutes but vary a lot; plan for 21–44 minutes. The XMR amount is fixed at the second confirmation.

  4. XMR is paid out

The status page shows your deposit on the Bitcoin explorer and the Monero payout hash. Your wallet shows the XMR after scanning the block it is in.

Before you send — checklist

  • The Monero address is 95 characters and starts with 4 or 8; copy it from the wallet, not from a chat message that may have been altered.
  • The Bitcoin fee is set to confirm soon. A transaction that sits in the mempool for hours still counts when it confirms, but the rate is fixed only then.
  • You send one transaction for the full amount. Two smaller payments to the same deposit address are not treated as one deposit.
  • The wallet that owns the Monero address will be opened and synced afterwards — the XMR is visible only after the wallet scans the payout block.
  • You saved the status link.

The two mistakes that cost money on this route

A fee set too low on the Bitcoin side

A low-fee transaction may wait through many blocks. The swap does not fail, but the XMR amount is calculated at confirmation, not at the moment you sent, and a long wait in a moving market changes it. If your wallet can raise the fee of an unconfirmed transaction, use that instead of sending a second payment.

Reading the Monero payout like a Bitcoin transaction

On a Bitcoin explorer you can see the amount reach an address. On a Monero explorer the payout hash shows a block and a time — nothing else. If your wallet has not caught up with the chain yet, it will show nothing either. Sync the wallet; the payment is there.

What is visible on-chain

Your bitcoin transaction is permanent and public: the explorer shows which outputs you spent, the deposit address, the amount and the fee, and anyone who knows your address can read it years later. The payout is a Monero transaction; its hash is on the Monero explorer, its amount and recipient are not. The two records are not linked on either chain — only the status page, which you hold, places them side by side.

FAQ

How long does it take?

About 21–44 minutes: 2 Bitcoin confirmations plus processing. A slow block or a congested mempool can stretch that; the Monero payout itself takes about two minutes to land in a block.

Why wait for 2 Bitcoin confirmations and not 1?

One block can still be replaced by a competing one. Two confirmations make a reversal impractical for the amounts a swap handles, and the XMR cannot be taken back once sent.

When can I spend the XMR?

Monero locks every received output for 10 blocks — about 20 minutes after the payout is mined. The wallet shows it as balance at once and as unlocked balance after the tenth block.

Which Bitcoin address types can I send from?

Any — legacy 1…, P2SH 3…, SegWit bc1q… or Taproot bc1p…. The deposit address is chosen by us; your wallet only has to be able to send to it.

What is the minimum?

It is shown under the amount field and follows the Bitcoin fee market and the Monero fee. On a congested Bitcoin day it is higher.

What if the swap cannot be completed?

Write to support with the swap ID from the status page. The form has no refund address: a swap that cannot be completed is handled by hand, and a return to the address you sent from is arranged under the partner's rules, less the network fee.
