# Swap USDT ERC-20 to XMR

Turn USDT on Ethereum into Monero without an account: enter the amount, paste your 4… or 8… address and send the USDT from any Ethereum wallet.

- **Arrival:** ≈ 4–10 min

- **Confirmations:** 15 on Ethereum

- **Rate:** Floating

- **Fee token after arrival:** XMR

## When this route is the right one

You hold USDT as an ERC-20 token and the next thing you have to pay for is priced in XMR — a service, an invoice, a person who only gives out a Monero address. Or you simply want to leave a dollar token on Ethereum and hold a coin that settles on its own chain.

No wallet can do this in one transaction. USDT on Ethereum is a balance inside a token contract; Monero is a separate network with its own addresses and its own rules about what the ledger reveals. The two legs are settled separately: your USDT arrives at a deposit address on Ethereum, and XMR is sent to the address you gave. You sign only the first leg.

## USDT ERC-20 vs XMR — side by side

| | USDT on Ethereum ERC-20 | XMR on Monero |
|---|---|---|
| Address format | 0x… (42 characters) | 4… or 8… (95 characters) |
| Fee token | ETH | XMR |
| Confirmations we wait for | 15 | 5 |
| Explorer | etherscan.io | monerohash.com |

## What happens, in order

1. Enter the amount and the Monero address Paste the 95-character address from your Monero wallet, starting with 4 or 8. No payment ID is asked for. The estimate is shown in XMR.
2. Send USDT on Ethereum You get a one-time 0x… deposit address for this swap. Send the USDT from any Ethereum wallet; the wallet pays gas in ETH.
3. Ethereum confirms We wait for 15 confirmations — about 4–10 minutes. The XMR amount is fixed at that moment.
4. XMR is paid out The status page shows the Etherscan hash of your deposit and the Monero hash of the payout. Your wallet shows the XMR once it has scanned the block.

## Before you send — checklist

- The receiving address comes from a Monero wallet you control: 95 characters, beginning with 4 (primary address) or 8 (subaddress).
- The wallet that sends the USDT holds some ETH. A USDT transfer is an Ethereum transaction and the token cannot pay its own gas.
- If you withdraw the USDT from an exchange, the withdrawal network is Ethereum (ERC-20) — not TRON, not BNB Smart Chain.
- You know that Monero locks a received output for 10 blocks, roughly 20 minutes, before the wallet lets you spend it.
- You saved the status link. It is the only record of the swap you have.

## The two mistakes that cost money on this route

### Withdrawing to the deposit address on another network

Exchanges offer USDT withdrawals on five or six networks, and the address field accepts a 0x… string for several of them. The deposit address here lives on Ethereum. USDT sent to it as BEP-20 or on an Ethereum rollup lands on a different ledger and does not reach the swap.

### No ETH for gas in the sending wallet

Gas on Ethereum moves with demand. A wallet that holds USDT and zero ETH cannot send anything. Top up ETH before you start the swap, so the deposit goes out while the estimate still reflects the market.

## Other ways to make the same move

| Way | What you need | Where it is slower or dearer |
|---|---|---|
| An exchange that lists XMR | An account, a USDT deposit, a market order, a withdrawal | Two waits on their side plus a withdrawal fee; Monero is not listed on every exchange |
| A peer-to-peer trade | A counterparty, an escrow or trust, time to negotiate | Price set by the counterparty; your USDT address is shared with a stranger |
| This swap | Two addresses | A floating rate: the XMR amount is fixed when the Ethereum deposit confirms |

## What is visible on-chain

The Ethereum side is fully public. Etherscan shows your wallet sending USDT to the deposit address, with the amount, the time and the gas paid. The Monero side is not readable the same way: the payout hash exists on the explorer, but the explorer shows neither the amount nor the receiving address, because Monero transactions are built that way. Your wallet sees the payment because it holds the keys for the address you gave.

## FAQ

Which Monero address do I paste?

A primary address (4…) or a subaddress (8…) from the same wallet; both are 95 characters. Monero's own documentation recommends subaddresses for receiving. Nothing else is needed — no payment ID, no memo.

How long before I can spend the XMR?

The payout follows the 15 Ethereum confirmations, about 4–10 minutes after you send. Monero then keeps a received output locked for 10 blocks — about 20 minutes at the 2-minute block target. Your wallet shows it as balance first and as unlocked balance after that.

Why does sending USDT need ETH?

Every ERC-20 transfer is an Ethereum transaction and pays gas in ETH. The fee is your wallet's cost on the way in and is separate from the swap.

Where is the minimum amount?

Under the amount field. It changes with Ethereum gas and with the Monero network fee, so read it on the day you swap.

Can the USDT come straight from an exchange?

Yes — withdraw on the Ethereum (ERC-20) network to the deposit address. Most exchanges deduct their withdrawal fee from the amount, so withdraw a little more than the figure on this page.

What if the swap cannot be completed?

Write to support with the swap ID from the status page. The form has no refund address: a swap that cannot be completed is handled by hand, and a return to the address you sent from is arranged under the partner's rules, less the network fee.
