You received USDT as BEP-20 — from an exchange withdrawal, a game, a payment — and the person or service you need to pay only takes it on TRON. Or you want to hold USDT on the network where you are most likely to spend it next, and that network is TRON.

The two networks do not talk to each other. A BNB Smart Chain transaction can only credit a 0x… address on that chain; a T… address does not exist there. USDT on BNB Smart Chain is Binance-Peg USDT: Binance issues it against USDT it holds, and Tether's own list of supported protocols does not carry a USDT contract on BNB Smart Chain. ## The two mistakes that cost money on this route

### Withdrawing from an exchange on another 0x network

Exchanges sell the same 0x… deposit address for Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum and more. The deposit address here lives on BNB Smart Chain. If you pick BEP-20 on the exchange page it arrives; if you pick ERC-20 or Polygon it lands on another ledger and is not seen by this swap.

### Pasting a TRX deposit address meant for the coin

On TRON, USDT and TRX share one address format. An exchange shows you the same T… address for both, but credits it according to the page you opened. If the page was for TRX, a USDT payout may sit uncredited until support there sorts it out. Copy the address from the USDT (TRC-20) deposit page.

BscScan shows a BEP-20 transfer from your 0x… address to the deposit address, with the amount and the BNB fee. Tronscan shows a TRC-20 transfer from a payout address to your T… address. Both are public and permanent. Neither chain records that the two transfers belong together.

Is USDT BEP-20 the same as USDT TRC-20?

Same name and price, different issuer. On BNB Smart Chain it is Binance-Peg USDT, backed one to one by Binance. On TRON it is Tether's own token. This route takes the first and pays the second.

How long does it take?

Do I need BNB?

Yes, in the wallet you send from. A BEP-20 transfer is a BNB Smart Chain transaction and the fee is paid in BNB. The amount is small but not zero.

Do I need TRX to receive?

No. The payout is a transfer into your address and the sender pays. You need TRX or energy only to move the USDT on later.

Where is the minimum?

What if the swap cannot be completed?
