# Swap PAXG ERC-20 to BTC

Swap PAX Gold for Bitcoin without an account: enter the amount, paste your Bitcoin address and send PAXG from any Ethereum wallet.

- **Arrival:** ≈ 21–44 min

- **Confirmations:** 100 on Ethereum

- **Rate:** Floating

- **Fee token after arrival:** BTC

## When this route is the right one

You hold PAXG — the Ethereum token Paxos issues against gold held in London vaults, one token for one fine troy ounce (paxos.com, checked on 12 October 2026) — and want bitcoin instead: to take a position in BTC, to pay a Bitcoin invoice, or to leave the Ethereum fee market behind.

PAXG is an ERC-20 token at 0x45804880De22913dAFE09f4980848ECE6EcbAf78 with 18 decimals (Etherscan, 12 October 2026), so you can send a fraction of a token. The deposit is a normal ERC-20 transfer and is counted after 100 Ethereum confirmations — about 20 minutes of blocks, so plan for 21–44 minutes in all — and then bitcoin is sent to the address you gave.

## PAXG ERC-20 vs BTC — side by side

| | PAXG on Ethereum ERC-20 | BTC on Bitcoin |
|---|---|---|
| Address format | 0x… (42 characters) | 1…, 3…, bc1… |
| Fee token | ETH | BTC |
| Confirmations we wait for | 100 | 2 |
| Explorer | etherscan.io | blockchain.com |

## What happens, in order

1. Enter the PAXG amount and your Bitcoin address Paste a Bitcoin address — 1…, 3…, bc1q… or bc1p…. The estimate is in BTC and follows the gold price and the bitcoin price until the deposit confirms.
2. Send PAXG to the deposit address You get a one-time Ethereum address (0x…). Send the PAXG token from any Ethereum wallet. The wallet pays gas in ETH, so it must hold some.
3. Ethereum confirms We wait for 100 confirmations — deeper than for ETH itself. The BTC amount is fixed at the hundredth block.
4. BTC is paid out The status page links your token transfer on Etherscan and the Bitcoin payout transaction; the BTC is spendable after the confirmations your own wallet requires.

## Before you send — checklist

- The receiving address is a Bitcoin address: 1…, 3…, bc1q… or bc1p….
- The Ethereum wallet holds ETH for gas. An ERC-20 transfer cannot be sent from a wallet that holds only PAXG.
- You are sending PAXG on Ethereum. Paxos also issues PAXG on other chains; the deposit address here is an Ethereum address and only the ERC-20 token reaches it.
- You send one transfer for the full amount. Two smaller transfers to the same deposit address are not treated as one deposit.
- You saved the status link.

## The two mistakes that cost money on this route

### No ETH in the wallet

PAXG sits in the wallet like any ERC-20 token, but the transfer itself is paid in ETH. If the wallet holds only PAXG, the transaction cannot be signed. Top up a little ETH first — enough for one transfer at the gas price your wallet shows — and then send the token.

### Withdrawing PAXG from an exchange on another network

Exchanges that list PAXG may offer withdrawal on more than one network. The deposit address on this page is an Ethereum address; only the Ethereum token counts. A transfer on another chain to the same 0x… string lands on a chain we are not watching and takes support work to trace. Read the network on the withdrawal page.

## Other ways to make the same move

| Way | What you need | Where it is slower or dearer |
|---|---|---|
| An exchange that lists PAXG | An account, a PAXG deposit, a sale into a stablecoin or BTC, a withdrawal | Two or three steps, each with a wait; a withdrawal fee |
| Redeem with the issuer, then buy bitcoin | A Paxos account, their redemption minimum and process, a separate place to buy BTC | Days rather than minutes; meant for gold delivery, not for a swap |
| This swap | Two addresses and some ETH for gas | A floating rate fixed at the hundredth Ethereum confirmation |

## What is visible on-chain

Etherscan shows your PAXG transfer as an ERC-20 Transfer event from your wallet to the deposit address, with the token amount, the gas paid in ETH and the block. The Bitcoin explorer shows the payout as a transaction from a payout address to the Bitcoin address you gave, with the amount and the fee. Both are public and permanent; the gold behind the token is tracked by Paxos, not by either chain.

## FAQ

How long does it take?

About 21–44 minutes. The deposit is counted at 100 Ethereum confirmations, roughly 20 minutes at a 12-second block time, and the Bitcoin payout is sent after that.

Why 100 confirmations when ETH needs 15?

The number is set per asset on this route and is deeper for PAXG than for ETH. It gives a wider margin before an irreversible Bitcoin payment is sent; it does not change the amount, only the wait.

Does PAXG itself charge a transfer fee?

Paxos states on its PAX Gold page that on-chain transfers now carry zero on-chain transfer fees (checked on 12 October 2026). The Ethereum gas for the transaction is separate and is paid by your wallet in ETH.

Can I send a fraction of a token?

Yes. PAXG has 18 decimals, so a fraction of an ounce is a normal transfer. The minimum shown under the amount field is what matters.

What is the minimum?

It is shown under the amount field and follows the gold price and the Bitcoin fee market.

What if the swap cannot be completed?

Write to support with the swap ID from the status page. The form has no refund address: a swap that cannot be completed is handled by hand, and a return to the address you sent from is arranged under the partner's rules, less the network fee.
