# Swap ETH to USDT ERC-20

Swap ETH for USDT on Ethereum without an account: enter the amount, paste your 0x… address and send ETH from any Ethereum wallet.

- **Arrival:** ≈ 4–10 min

- **Confirmations:** 15 on Ethereum

- **Rate:** Floating

- **Fee token after arrival:** ETH

## When this route is the right one

You hold ETH and want to hold dollars without leaving Ethereum: the USDT lands in the same wallet, at the same 0x… address, ready for an app, a payment or an exchange deposit page that says ERC-20. It is the route for sitting out a move in the ETH price while keeping everything in one place.

Both legs run on Ethereum, but they are two separate transactions. Your wallet sends ETH to a one-time deposit address; after 15 confirmations — about 4–10 minutes — USDT is transferred from a payout address to the address you gave. The gas of that payout is paid by the payout address. Your own cost is the gas of the deposit transaction, and you should leave enough ETH behind to move the USDT later.

## ETH vs USDT ERC-20 — side by side

| | ETH on Ethereum | USDT on Ethereum ERC-20 |
|---|---|---|
| Address format | 0x… (42 characters) | 0x… (42 characters) |
| Fee token | ETH | ETH |
| Confirmations we wait for | 15 | 15 |

## What happens, in order

1. Enter the ETH amount and the address Paste the 0x… address that should receive USDT — usually the wallet you send from. The estimate is in USDT.
2. Send ETH to the deposit address You get a one-time 0x… deposit address. Send ETH itself, as a plain transfer on Ethereum mainnet, from any wallet — not WETH and not a token.
3. Ethereum confirms 15 confirmations at the 12-second slot, about 4–10 minutes. The USDT amount is fixed then.
4. USDT is paid out on Ethereum The status page links the Etherscan transaction: a USDT token transfer to your address.

## Before you send — checklist

- The receiving address is on Ethereum mainnet — not the same 0x… string on Arbitrum, Base or BNB Smart Chain.
- If it is an exchange address, its USDT deposit page says ERC-20 or Ethereum.
- ETH stays in the wallet after the deposit: the deposit transaction needs gas, and the first USDT transfer out will need gas again.
- You send ETH on mainnet. An ETH balance on a rollup is a separate balance and cannot reach a mainnet address directly.
- You saved the status link. It is the only place the swap is tracked.

## The two mistakes that cost money on this route

### Swapping all the ETH

A wallet that holds USDT and no ETH cannot send the USDT anywhere: every ERC-20 transfer is paid in ETH by the sender. Keep enough for at least one transfer at a busy-network gas price, or plan to top up before you need to move the USDT.

### Sending from a rollup

Arbitrum, Base and the other rollups show the same 0x… addresses as mainnet. ETH sent there to the deposit address arrives on that rollup, at an address the swap does not watch, and does not start the swap. Switch the wallet to Ethereum mainnet before you send.

## Other ways to make the same move

| Way | What you need | Where it is slower or dearer |
|---|---|---|
| A DEX on Ethereum | A wallet connected to the DEX, ETH for gas, a swap signature | A pool price with slippage at the moment of the trade; you pick the pool and the settings |
| An exchange account | An account, an ETH deposit, a sale, an ERC-20 withdrawal | Two waits and a withdrawal fee that is often large on Ethereum |
| This swap | Two addresses — both can be the same wallet | A floating rate fixed at the 15th confirmation; one plain transfer, no connection and no approval |

## What is visible on-chain

Everything is on Etherscan. Your wallet sends ETH to the deposit address as a normal value transfer. Later a payout address sends USDT to the address you gave — a contract call that shows under the token transfers tab rather than as an ETH value. If you receive at the wallet you sent from, an observer sees ETH leave and USDT arrive within minutes, with nothing on chain tying the two together except the timing.

## FAQ

How long does it take?

About 4–10 minutes for the 15 Ethereum confirmations. The USDT transfer follows and is included within a block or two.

What is the minimum?

The form shows it under the amount field. It moves with the gas price, because the payout is a token transfer, and with the ETH price.

What if the swap cannot be completed?

Write to support with the swap ID from the status page. The form has no refund address: a swap that cannot be completed is handled by hand, and a return to the address you sent from is arranged under the partner's rules, less the network fee.

Why not just use a DEX?

You can. A DEX gives a pool price at the moment of the trade, for the gas of a swap, with a wallet connected to its site. Here there is no connection and no approval: one plain ETH transfer, and a rate that floats until the deposit confirms. Which is better depends on the amount and on how much the price moves in 4–10 minutes.

Do I pay gas for the USDT transfer?

No. The payout's gas is paid by the payout address. You pay gas once, for your ETH deposit, and again later when you move the USDT on.

Can I receive at the address I send from?

Yes. That is the usual way to use this route. The USDT appears in the same wallet, in the token list, once the payout is mined.
