# Swap ETH to BTC

Swap ETH for Bitcoin without an account: enter the amount, paste a Bitcoin address and send ETH from any Ethereum wallet.

- **Arrival:** ≈ 4–10 min

- **Confirmations:** 15 on Ethereum

- **Rate:** Floating

- **Fee token after arrival:** BTC

## When this route is the right one

You hold ETH and want BTC — to move part of a position into Bitcoin, to pay an invoice that shows a bc1… address, or to fund a hardware wallet that holds only Bitcoin. The two largest networks, and the one pair almost every holder crosses at some point.

An Ethereum transaction reaches only an Ethereum address; a Bitcoin wallet cannot receive it. The ETH is received here and confirmed on Ethereum — 15 confirmations, about 4–10 minutes — then BTC is sent to the address you gave. Bitcoin is the destination, so its slow blocks are the receiver's wait rather than a condition of the swap: the payout shows in the mempool first and is final once it is mined.

## ETH vs BTC — side by side

| | ETH on Ethereum | BTC on Bitcoin |
|---|---|---|
| Address format | 0x… (42 characters) | 1…, 3…, bc1… |
| Fee token | ETH | BTC |
| Confirmations we wait for | 15 | 2 |
| Explorer | etherscan.io | blockchain.com |

## What happens, in order

1. Enter the ETH amount and the Bitcoin address Paste the Bitcoin address: 1…, 3…, bc1q… or bc1p…. The estimate is in BTC.
2. Send ETH to the deposit address You get a one-time 0x… deposit address. Send ETH as a plain transfer on Ethereum mainnet from any wallet, and leave a little ETH for the gas.
3. Ethereum confirms 15 confirmations, about 4–10 minutes. The BTC amount is fixed then.
4. BTC is paid out on Bitcoin The status page links the payout transaction on a Bitcoin explorer. It appears unconfirmed first and settles as blocks are mined.

## Before you send — checklist

- The receiving address is a Bitcoin mainnet address: 1…, 3…, bc1q… or bc1p… — the one your wallet shows on its receive screen.
- If it is an exchange address, the deposit page was opened for BTC on the Bitcoin network.
- You send ETH on Ethereum mainnet. An ETH balance on a rollup cannot reach a mainnet address directly.
- ETH stays behind for gas: the deposit transaction needs it, and the wallet should not be left empty.
- You saved the status link. It is the only place the swap is tracked.

## The two mistakes that cost money on this route

### Judging the payout by the first look at the explorer

The BTC payout is visible in the mempool before it is mined, and zero confirmations is not final. A wallet that credits at one or more confirmations shows it later, after the next block or two. Waiting ten or twenty minutes at this stage is normal and not a sign of a problem.

### Sending from a rollup

Arbitrum, Base and the other rollups show the same 0x… addresses as mainnet. ETH sent there to the deposit address arrives on that rollup, at an address the swap does not watch, and does not start the swap. Switch the wallet to Ethereum mainnet before you send.

## Other ways to make the same move

| Way | What you need | Where it is slower or dearer |
|---|---|---|
| An exchange account | An account, an ETH deposit, a sale, a BTC withdrawal | Two waits and a withdrawal fee |
| A wrapped-BTC token on Ethereum | A DEX swap of ETH to a wrapped BTC token, then a redemption or an exchange to get BTC on the Bitcoin chain | The wrapped token is an Ethereum asset; turning it into Bitcoin is another step with another party |
| This swap | Two addresses | A floating rate fixed at the 15th Ethereum confirmation |

## What is visible on-chain

Etherscan shows your wallet sending ETH to the deposit address, with the gas paid and the block. A Bitcoin explorer shows the payout transaction with an output to your address; the inputs belong to the payout wallet. Both records are public forever, and nothing on either chain refers to the other.

## FAQ

How long does it take?

About 4–10 minutes until the BTC payout is sent, for the 15 Ethereum confirmations. The first Bitcoin confirmation of the payout then depends on the next block, about 10 minutes on average.

What is the minimum?

The form shows it under the amount field. It moves with the Bitcoin fee of the payout and the ETH price.

What if the swap cannot be completed?

Write to support with the swap ID from the status page. The form has no refund address: a swap that cannot be completed is handled by hand, and a return to the address you sent from is arranged under the partner's rules, less the network fee.

Which Bitcoin address type should I give?

Any mainnet type: legacy 1…, script 3…, native SegWit bc1q… or Taproot bc1p…. Give the one your wallet shows on its receive screen; all four are accepted.

When is the BTC final?

Once the payout is mined into a block. Your wallet may wait for the confirmation count it uses before it shows the balance as spendable; the status page links the transaction so you can watch it confirm.

Can I send ETH from an exchange?

Yes, withdrawing on the Ethereum network — not on a rollup — to the deposit address. Exchanges deduct their withdrawal fee from the amount, so withdraw a little more than the figure on this page.
