# Swap Ethereum (ETH)

ETH is both a coin to hold and the fuel for every token on Ethereum. Here you can swap ETH for USDT, BTC or XMR, or get ETH for them — with two addresses and no account.

## Which network should the ETH arrive on?

- **One format, several networks.:** An Ethereum address is 0x followed by 40 hexadecimal characters. BNB Smart Chain, Polygon and Base use the same format, and the same private key gives the same address on each. The form on this page sends ETH on Ethereum itself — if the receiver expects ETH on Base or another second layer, that is a different network and the coins would land where they cannot be seen.

- **An exchange is receiving.:** Use the ETH deposit address and make sure the deposit page says Ethereum (ERC-20) or Ethereum mainnet, not Arbitrum, Optimism or Base.

- **Your own wallet is receiving.:** Any Ethereum wallet works. Once the ETH arrives you can spend it right away; it is itself the fee token, so nothing else needs to be in the wallet.

- **You hold USDT or USDC on Ethereum and no ETH.:** Then the tokens cannot be moved: every transfer on Ethereum pays gas in ETH. The route from USDT on TRON to ETH is one way to get a little ETH into a wallet that holds only tokens.

## How to swap ETH

1. Choose the two sides. Pick ETH, then what you want to receive — or the other way round when ETH is what you need.
2. Enter the amount. The estimate updates as you type and refreshes every 60 seconds. The minimum for the route is shown under the field.
3. Paste the receiving address. For an ETH payout the form checks for a 0x… address of 42 characters. For other coins it checks that network's format.
4. Send the deposit. You get a one-time deposit address. Send the exact amount, in one transaction. Your wallet will show a gas fee on top; let it use the suggested fee so the transaction is picked up quickly.
5. Follow it. The status page shows each stage and both transaction hashes. The Ethereum side can be watched on Etherscan.

## Before you send — checklist

- The receiving address is 0x… with 42 characters, and the receiver expects ETH on Ethereum mainnet.
- If ETH is what you send, the wallet has enough ETH for the amount plus gas — the form amount is what must arrive.
- The deposit is sent from a wallet you control, not from a contract: payouts and refunds go to plain addresses.
- If you send from an exchange, you chose the Ethereum network, not a second layer.
- The status link is saved.

## What a ETH swap costs

- **The rate is floating.** The estimate follows the market and is fixed when your deposit confirms, after 15 confirmations on Ethereum — about 4–10 minutes.
- **The network fee for the payout** is shown in the form and already taken out of "You get". For an ETH payout it is a plain transfer, the cheapest kind of Ethereum transaction.
- **Sending the deposit** costs your wallet gas in ETH. That fee is not part of the swap. The gas price moves with demand on the network and is quoted in gwei, a billionth of an ETH.

Small amounts cost more in percent, because the payout network fee is the same size for a small swap as for a large one. Paying out on Ethereum is usually dearer than paying out on TRON or BNB Smart Chain.

## How Ethereum works for a sender — slots, gas, confirmations

Ethereum is the network most tokens were born on, and ETH is both a coin and the fuel for all of them. The numbers below were checked on 14 October 2026 on ethereum.org.

### Slots: one every 12 seconds

Since the Merge, Ethereum runs on proof of stake. Time is divided into slots of 12 seconds and epochs of 32 slots; in each slot one validator is chosen to propose a block, and the others attest to it. A slot can pass without a block, but it cannot come early, so block timing on Ethereum is far more regular than on Bitcoin. Finality is reached when a checkpoint in one epoch and the next both gather two-thirds of the stake — a matter of epochs, not of single blocks.

### What a confirmation is

Each block after the one that holds your transaction adds one confirmation. The route data this site is built from waits for **15** on an ETH deposit, and the same 15 on USDT and USDC deposits on Ethereum, because they ride in the same blocks. Fifteen slots are 3 minutes, plus a minute of processing, so the estimate is 4–10 minutes; an empty slot or two stretches it toward the upper end.

| Confirmations | For the deposit |
|---|---|
| 0 | In the mempool; visible on Etherscan as pending |
| 1 | In a block; the status page shows 1 of 15 |
| 15 | The rate is fixed and the payout is prepared |
| Finalized | Two epochs later; what matters to a validator, not to the swap |

### Gas, in five sentences

Every transaction uses gas, and a plain ETH transfer uses exactly 21,000 units; a token transfer or a contract call uses more. The price per unit has two parts: a base fee that the protocol sets from how full the last block was — it moves by at most 12.5 % per block — and a priority fee that goes to the validator. The base fee is burned. Your wallet multiplies gas by price and shows the total in ETH before you sign; a wallet's suggested price is tuned to be included within a few blocks. Since Fusaka the default block gas limit is 60 million, and a single transaction may not use more than 16,777,216 gas (ethereum.org, Fusaka page).

### Why the deposit can be slow

Two reasons, both on the sending side. A gas price set below the current base fee is not included at all until the base fee falls; wallets rarely let you do this, but "custom" settings can. And a wallet with a stuck earlier transaction holds later ones behind it, because Ethereum processes an address's transactions in order of nonce. The deposit still belongs to the swap in either case and is processed at its fifteenth confirmation.

**The thing to know before sending.** The deposit amount must arrive in full, and the gas comes on top from your balance. A wallet that holds exactly the amount cannot send it. Leave room for the fee, and let the wallet use its suggested price.

## Ethereum addresses — 0x…, the checksum, and the networks that share it

An Ethereum address is the last 20 bytes of a hash of the public key, written as 0x followed by 40 hexadecimal characters: 42 characters in all. Every wallet made since 2015 shows one, and a 2012-style address does not exist — the format has never changed. What has changed is how many networks use it.

| Network | Uses 0x… addresses | Same key gives the same address | On this site as |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ethereum | yes | — | ETH, USDT ERC-20, USDC ERC-20 |
| BNB Smart Chain | yes | yes | USDT BEP-20 |
| Polygon PoS | yes | yes | USDC Polygon |
| Base | yes | yes | USDC Base |

### The checksum nobody has to use

ERC-55 (github.com/ethereum/ERCs, created 14 January 2016, status Final) defines a mixed-case form: the address is hashed, and each letter a–f is written in upper case when the matching hash digit is 8 or higher. A parser that understands the scheme rejects an address whose case pattern does not fit, which catches a mistyped character about 99.98 % of the time by the ERC's own estimate. An all-lowercase address is also valid and carries no check. The form accepts both; pasting rather than typing makes the question moot.

### One address, several networks

The same private key yields the same 0x… address on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon and Base. That is why a wallet shows one address for all of them, and why the address alone never tells you where a payment should go. The [ETH page](https://sablebolt.io/coin/ethereum) pays out ETH on Ethereum mainnet. If the receiver expects ETH on Base, Arbitrum or another second layer, that is a different network with its own ETH balance, and the coins would arrive where the receiver is not looking.

### What the form accepts

For an ETH payout: a 0x… address of 42 characters, with or without checksum case. Not an ENS name, not an address from a different family (T…, base58, UQ…), not a contract unless you know it accepts plain ETH. The deposit address the form shows you is an ordinary address that any wallet or exchange withdrawal on Ethereum can pay.

### Contracts and plain addresses

An address can belong to a person's wallet or to a contract. Both receive ETH, but a contract decides in code what it does with it, and some reject plain transfers. Payouts and refunds from a swap go to plain addresses; a deposit sent from a contract wallet, where the ETH arrives through an internal call, can be harder to match. Send the deposit from an ordinary wallet address you control.

[Pay USDT to a different network](https://sablebolt.io/blog/pay-usdt-to-a-different-network) has the practical rules for the 0x… family when a token is involved.

## Checking an Ethereum transaction — what Etherscan shows

Every Ethereum transaction has a 66-character hash (0x and 64 hex digits), and the status page links the Ethereum side of a swap to Etherscan. The explorer was read on 14 October 2026.

**The transaction page** shows: Status (Pending, Success or Fail), Block number and the confirmations since, Timestamp, From and To, Value in ETH, the Transaction Fee in ETH, the Gas Price in gwei, and under "More details" the gas limit, gas used, base fee and priority fee, and the nonce. For a token transfer the Value is 0 ETH and the amount appears under "ERC-20 Tokens Transferred", with the token's name and contract.

### A deposit you sent

1. Copy the hash from your wallet's activity list.
2. Open it on Etherscan. Not found means the wallet has not broadcast it; Pending means it is in the mempool and waiting for a block.
3. Check To: the deposit address from the form. For ETH, check Value; for USDT or USDC, the token line.
4. If it is Pending for more than a few minutes, look at the Gas Price against the base fee Etherscan shows on its front page. Below it, the transaction waits until the base fee falls — or until the wallet replaces it with a higher price, which most wallets offer as "speed up".
5. Watch the confirmations. The status page updates on its own at 15.

### A payout you received

The status page shows the payout hash when the payout is sent. On Etherscan, To is your address and Value is "You get" from the form; the payout network fee was already taken out. Your wallet shows the ETH once its node has the block, usually within a minute. An exchange credits after its own count, often more than 15.

### What Fail means

A transaction can be included in a block and still fail — Status Fail, with the gas spent and the value not moved. For a plain ETH transfer that is rare; for a token transfer it usually means the sending contract reverted, for example because the wallet set the gas limit too low. A failed deposit never reached the swap; a new transaction is needed, and the failed one's fee is gone.

### Internal transactions

When ETH moves through a contract, Etherscan lists it under "Internal Txns" rather than as the transaction's Value. If you sent the deposit from a smart-contract wallet, that is where the ETH appears. It still arrives, but it is matched differently; sending from an ordinary address avoids the question.

[What a block explorer shows about a swap](https://sablebolt.io/blog/what-a-block-explorer-shows-about-a-swap) covers the same reading on the other networks; [Reading a swap status page](https://sablebolt.io/blog/reading-a-swap-status-page) explains each stage.

## The mistakes that cost money with ETH

ETH's mistakes are about the fee and about the family of networks that share its address format. The coin itself is simple: no memo, no contract to compare, one network.

| Mistake | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Wallet holds exactly the amount, no room for gas | The wallet refuses to send, or sends less than the form expects | Keep ETH for the fee on top of the deposit amount |
| Payout address belongs to an exchange that expects ETH on Base or Arbitrum | The ETH is on mainnet, at an address the exchange watches on another network | Check the deposit page's network; afterwards only that exchange can help |
| Deposit sent on a second layer | The swap is watching Ethereum mainnet and sees nothing | Withdraw from the exchange or wallet on "Ethereum (ERC-20)" or "mainnet" only |
| Custom gas price below the base fee | The transaction stays Pending; the rate is fixed only when it confirms | Use the wallet's "speed up"; otherwise it confirms when the base fee drops |
| Earlier stuck transaction in the same wallet | The deposit waits behind it (nonce order) | Speed up or cancel the earlier one first |
| Exchange withdrawal fee taken out of the amount | The deposit arrives short | Set the withdrawal so that the amount arriving equals the form's figure |
| Sending WETH or a wrapped ETH token | A token, not ETH; the swap expects the coin | Unwrap first, then send ETH |

### The fee on top

The deposit must arrive in full. Ethereum takes the gas from the sender's balance separately, so a wallet needs the amount plus the fee. With the base fee moving by the block, a wallet that is a few thousand gwei short will refuse at the last step. Leave a margin; what is not used stays yours.

### Mainnet is not the only Ethereum

Base, Arbitrum, Optimism and the other second layers hold ETH balances of their own, at the same 0x… addresses, on networks of their own. An exchange's "ETH deposit" page names one of them. The [ETH page](https://sablebolt.io/coin/ethereum) pays out on mainnet; if the page named a second layer, the deposit lands where the exchange is not looking. The reverse mistake — sending the deposit from a second layer — leaves the swap waiting for a transfer that will never appear on mainnet.

### The stuck transaction

Ethereum processes an address's transactions in nonce order. If an earlier transaction is pending with a low gas price, every later one from that wallet waits behind it, including the deposit. Wallets show this as a queue; "speed up" on the first one releases the rest.

### Less than the minimum

A deposit under the route's minimum cannot be processed as a swap, because the payout fee must fit inside it. The minimum is under the amount field and moves with gas and the payout network's fee; [Minimums, maximums and network fees on small swaps](https://sablebolt.io/blog/minimums-maximums-network-fees-small-swaps) shows how to read it.

## What changed on Ethereum, and when — dated, with sources

Ethereum upgrades on a schedule of named hard forks, and most of them change nothing for a person sending ETH. Three did, and the two most recent are worth knowing by name because scams use them. Dates and block numbers come from ethereum.org's upgrade history, read on 14 October 2026.

| Upgrade | Date (UTC) | Block / epoch | For a sender | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Frontier | 30 July 2015 | genesis | The network starts | ethereum.org, history |
| London (EIP-1559) | 5 August 2021 | block 12,965,000 | Base fee plus priority fee replaces the single gas price; the base fee is burned | ethereum.org, history |
| Paris — the Merge | 15 September 2022 | block 15,537,394 | Proof of stake; 12-second slots; mining ends | ethereum.org, history |
| Shapella | 12 April 2023 | block 17,034,870 | Staked ETH can be withdrawn; nothing for transfers | ethereum.org, history |
| Dencun | 13 March 2024 | block 19,426,587 | Blobs make second layers cheaper; mainnet transfers unchanged | ethereum.org, history |
| Pectra | 7 May 2025 | epoch 364,032 | EIP-7702 lets an ordinary address opt into smart-account features; validators may stake up to 2,048 ETH | ethereum.org, Pectra page |
| Fusaka | 3 December 2025 | block 23,935,694 | PeerDAS; block gas limit 60 million; a transaction capped at 16,777,216 gas | ethereum.org, Fusaka page |
| Glamsterdam | not set | — | — | ethereum.org, history |

**London, 2021.** The fee you see in a wallet today — a base fee set by the protocol and burned, plus a tip to the validator — dates from here. Before it, every sender guessed a gas price and overpaid or waited.

**The Merge, 2022.** Proof of work ended; validators with 32 ETH replaced miners, and blocks came to slots of 12 seconds. For a sender the practical change was regularity: the 15 confirmations this site waits for are about 3 minutes of slots, and were a less predictable span of mined blocks before.

**Pectra, 2025.** EIP-7702 lets an ordinary 0x… address sign an authorization and behave like a smart account for a transaction — batching, paying gas in a token, recovery options — without changing the address. Wallets adopt it one by one; a wallet that has not still sends and receives as before. ethereum.org's own page says what to tell anyone who asks you to "upgrade" your ETH for Pectra: nothing needs doing, and the request is a scam.

**Fusaka, 2025.** Blob data is spread across nodes (PeerDAS), which is a second-layer matter. On mainnet the gas limit default moved to 60 million and a single transaction may not exceed 16,777,216 gas; ethereum.org says Fusaka is not expected to lower mainnet gas fees directly. As with Pectra, no action for holders, and anyone saying otherwise is not helping you.

**What has not changed.** The 0x… address, 18 decimals, 21,000 gas for a plain transfer, and the rule that a token transfer on Ethereum is paid in ETH. An address made in 2015 receives ETH today.

## Ethereum next to Solana, for a transfer

Both are networks where a dollar token needs the native coin to move, both pay out here in minutes, and both appear on this site as the fee coin people buy for the tokens they already hold. The numbers come from ethereum.org, Solana's documentation and a Solana mainnet node, all read on 14 October 2026, and from the route data this site uses.

| | Ethereum (ETH) | Solana (SOL) |
|---|---|---|
| Block cadence | 12-second slots | slots of a few hundred milliseconds |
| Confirmations the site waits for | 15 | 1 |
| Deposit confirmed in about | 4–10 min | 2–5 min |
| Smallest unit | wei, 18 decimals | lamport, 9 decimals |
| Fee model | gas × (base fee + priority fee), in ETH | 5,000 lamports per signature plus an optional priority fee, in SOL |
| Address | 0x…, 42 characters, shared with other EVM networks | base58, 32–44 characters, one network |
| Dollar tokens here | USDT ERC-20, USDC ERC-20 | USDC Solana |
| Receiving a token for the first time | nothing special | creates a token account with a small minimum balance, paid by the sender |
| Routes between them | none direct | [USDC ERC-20 → SOL](https://sablebolt.io/swap/usdc-erc20/sol) |
| Other routes | [USDT TRC-20 → ETH](https://sablebolt.io/swap/usdt-trc20/eth) , [ETH → USDT TRC-20](https://sablebolt.io/swap/eth/usdt-trc20) , [ETH → BTC](https://sablebolt.io/swap/eth/btc) , [ETH → XMR](https://sablebolt.io/swap/eth/xmr) | [USDT TRC-20 → SOL](https://sablebolt.io/swap/usdt-trc20/sol) , [SOL → USDT TRC-20](https://sablebolt.io/swap/sol/usdt-trc20) , [SOL → USDT BEP-20](https://sablebolt.io/swap/sol/usdt-bep20) |

**Time.** A swap from SOL finishes sooner: one confirmation on a sub-second chain against fifteen 12-second slots. Both are short next to Bitcoin's 21–44 minutes.

**Fees.** On Ethereum the fee is a market — the base fee rises when blocks are full and a token transfer at a busy hour can cost a multiple of a quiet one. On Solana the base fee is fixed per signature and small; congestion is handled by priority fees that wallets add when needed. The payout network fee shown in the form reflects this: a payout on Ethereum is usually the dearer of the two.

**Addresses.** Ethereum's 0x… format is shared with BNB Smart Chain, Polygon and Base, so the network has to be named in words. Solana's base58 address belongs to one network, and the form rejects it for anything else. Fewer ways to send to the wrong place.

**Tokens.** On Ethereum a token balance is a number in the token's contract. On Solana it is a separate account owned by your wallet, created on first receipt and holding a minimum balance in SOL — a sender's cost you will see on the explorer and never in your own balance.

**When each is the fee coin you need.** USDT or USDC on Ethereum with no ETH beside it: [USDT TRC-20 → ETH](https://sablebolt.io/swap/usdt-trc20/eth) . USDC on Solana with no SOL: [USDT TRC-20 → SOL](https://sablebolt.io/swap/usdt-trc20/sol) . Each puts the coin that pays for the next transfer into the wallet that holds the tokens, with two addresses.

## About ETH — only what a swapper needs

Ethereum has run since 2015 and is the network most tokens were first issued on. ETH is its native coin: it has no issuer and no contract, and every transaction on the network, whether it moves ETH or a token, pays its fee in ETH.

That fee is called gas. A transaction uses a number of gas units — 21,000 for a plain ETH transfer, more for a token transfer or a contract call — and pays a price per unit made of a base fee, set by the protocol from recent demand and burned, plus a priority fee that goes to the validator. The total in ETH is what your wallet shows before you confirm. When the network is busy the base fee rises, and a token transfer can cost several times more than at a quiet hour.

This is why ETH matters to people who never want to hold it. USDT and USDC on Ethereum are ERC-20 tokens, and a wallet that holds only tokens cannot send them: there is nothing to pay the gas with. A small amount of ETH next to the tokens is what makes them movable. Buying that ETH on an exchange means an account; the route from USDT on TRON to ETH on this page does it with two addresses.

A deposit in ETH is counted after 15 confirmations. Ethereum adds a block about every 12 seconds, so that is roughly 3 minutes of blocks and about 4–10 minutes until the swap starts. The same count applies to USDT and USDC deposits on Ethereum, because they ride on the same blocks.

The routes here pair ETH with: USDT on TRON for a cheap dollar balance, USDT on Ethereum when the dollars should stay on the same network, BTC, and XMR for the step from a public ledger to a private one.

## FAQ

Do I need ETH to receive ETH?

No. Receiving costs nothing on the receiving side. You need ETH in a wallet only to send something out of it — ETH itself or any ERC-20 token.

How long does a swap from ETH take?

About 4–10 minutes: 15 confirmations on Ethereum, then the payout on the other network. A swap into ETH depends on the network you send from — 2–5 minutes from TRON, 21–44 from Bitcoin.

Can I use a Base or Arbitrum address?

The address format is the same, so the form cannot tell the difference. This page pays out ETH on Ethereum mainnet. Give an address whose owner expects ETH there.

Why did my wallet ask for more ETH than the amount?

That is gas. The deposit amount must arrive in full, and the gas fee comes on top from your balance.

Can I send the deposit from an exchange?

Yes. Withdraw on the Ethereum (ERC-20) network to the deposit address and set the withdrawal so that the amount arriving matches the figure shown here.

What is the minimum?

It is shown under the amount field for the pair you selected and moves with gas and the payout network's fee.

What is gwei?

A billionth of an ETH, the unit gas prices are quoted in. A wei is a billionth of a gwei and the smallest unit there is; ETH has 18 decimal places.

Why is a token transfer dearer than sending ETH?

A plain ETH transfer uses 21,000 gas; a token transfer is a contract call and uses more. Both pay the same price per unit, so the token transfer costs more ETH at any given moment.

My transaction has been pending for an hour.

Its gas price is below the current base fee, or an earlier transaction from the same wallet is stuck ahead of it. Use the wallet's speed-up on the stuck one. The deposit still belongs to the swap and is processed when it confirms.

Does the upper- and lower-case in an address matter?

Mixed case is an optional checksum (ERC-55). An address in all lower case is also valid. Paste the address as given; do not change its case by hand.

Do I need to do anything after Pectra or Fusaka?

No. Balances and addresses are unchanged by every upgrade. Anyone who asks you to 'upgrade' or 'migrate' your ETH is running a scam, as ethereum.org says on both upgrade pages.

Is there a maximum supply of ETH?

No. New ETH is issued to validators, and the base fee of every transaction is burned; depending on network use the supply grows or shrinks a little each year.
